SUBJECT: EQUALITY OF THE FAITHS
Muslims, Christians, and Jews residing within the Sultanate shall all have equality under the laws of the Sultanate.
Further, it is herewith decreed that pagans seeking the protection of the Sultanate shall enjoy the same
equality under the laws of the Sultanate because they have sought the protection of the People of the Book.
This protection shall only extend to those pagans who seek also to know and respect the teachings of the
People of the Book. It is not our duty to force the pagans to accept the teachings of the People of the
Book but it is our duty to instruct them on the beliefs of God among the People of the Book. If they
join the People of the Book that is fine. If they do not and they wish to continue to live in the Sultanate
with our protection then they shall be granted equality under the law. This is out of basic human respect for all humankind!
In Azuristan the official position of the Imperial Government is that the Muslim people will show great
tolerance and respect towards non-Muslims and that non-Muslim people shall, in turn, show great tolerance
and respect for the Muslim people. We recognize Islamic Law pertaining to non-Muslims (ie: the demand
that Muslims treat Christians and Jews and other People of the Book as dhimmis).
Dhimmis in Azuristan are PROTECTED CITIZENS with RIGHTS. Dhimmis may freely practice their faith in
private. They are NOT subject to taxation as no one else Muslim or non-Muslim is because the Sultanate
does not have a taxation system.
People of the Book in the Sultanate refers to:
Christians, all Jews, Sikhs, Zoroastrians, Mandeans, Hindus and Buddhists.
